Five Year Plan for Improving the Services provided to Hispanic and other Low-Income Students

UPRA and UPRH will continue to provide the federal and state grants and loans for their more that 50% low-income students. Since UPRA’s and UPRH’s student population is 100% Hispanic, the CDP presented here constitutes a plan for improving the target groups. By institutionalizing the proposed project, the institutions will ensure that the improvements and practices are developed coherently and cooperatively, and benefit not only the partner institutions, but also other HSIs by disseminating their accomplishments at annual and mainland meetings and conferences.

The administration, faculty, and staff of both institutions are fully committed to improve the academic achievement and general performance of their Hispanic students. They seek to create an environment for their low-income Hispanic students that is supportive of a strong academic culture that will serve to increase student self-sufficiency, performance, workforce competitiveness, placement in jobs, and/or entry into graduate studies. They are aware that to sustain this funding initiative, technology-supported learning and effective faculty and staff development constitute key components of institutional commitment in achieving the shared Title V outcomes of Hispanic students’ access to quality higher education opportunities and academic success.
